Introducing the Diva exhibition blog

My name is Ayelet Lalor and I am a figurative sculptor, working in a variety of scales in clay, bronze and concrete.Among other work,  I have been creating a range of ceramic figurines for the past twelve years entitled Divas.
The Divas have all been female, glamorous, sexy, vivacious  and stylish. The themes have been influenced by different periods in time and created with theatrical extravagance, embellishments and bright colours. .

This exclusive exhibition of Divas came to fruition when, over a glass of wine with a friend, I realised that while I wanted to continue creating the Divas, I wanted to limit the productivity and make them more extravagant, more exclusive, more individual and unique while still continuing one their main characteristics of size and shape of form.
The idea behind the exhibition DIVA, was born.

My work has always been about women. I have been drawing women since I could draw, could hold a pencil and scribble all over my Dad's artwork (of which he was not too impressed!). My drawing eventually evolved into sculptures, recreating the dancing, the movement and the costumes that my sketch books were full of.
